Photo Retouching

This is a photo of my grandfather, Marvin Feldman. It is one of my mother's favorite photos. My grandfather passed away while my mother was only a young child. Consequently, my mother kept this photo in her wallet ever since. When something is so dear to someone, it is usually kept close. Unfortunately this photo managed to get very damaged, So when I told my mother that my photo illustration class will be restoring scratched and messed up pictures her eyes light up and handed me this photo.

Its amazing what photoshop can accomplish. My photo Illustration teacher, Mrs. Turner, taught my class endless amounts of ways to fix pictures. We used many tools and strategies to make the photos come out amazing starting with playing around with the photos levels and coloring, spot healing brush, the patch tool, the High pass filter (to make the photo hd), the sponge tool (to desaturate areas), the burn tool(to make areas darker), and many other amazing things in photoshop like filling in a selection with the content aware setting.

Some people may feel photoshopping is controversial since it can make things look unrealistic towards the human body, but those people don't understand all the other possibilities photoshop comes with. I can't wait to hand my mother a copy of my final project to replace the distorted, scratched, and ripped picture she had with my retouched photograph.
